Who we are
Since 1991, the University of Florida International Center (UFIC), through Exchange Visitor Services, International Student Services, Study Abroad Services, and Program Development, serves in a leadership and facilitation role to further the University’s international agenda, providing assistance and support to faculty, staff, administrators, and students as well as external stakeholders in their international activities. In addition to assisting these clients, the Center also functions to enhance the University’s ability to pursue and develop international activities and partnerships appropriate to its core mission:
The International Center motivates and mobilizes the UF community to integrate and sustain high-impact global dimensions in learning, discovery, and engagement, and provides administrative support to assure leadership for this vision.
With nearly 50,000 students, over 5,000 full-time faculty, and an additional staff of some 8,000 individuals, the University of Florida is one of the largest and most comprehensive universities in the United States. Although often stated, it is nevertheless true that we live in a global society and the University of Florida must be part of that mix. The principal role of the University of Florida International Center is to provide the essential leadership, support and visibility for assuring success for the international efforts of the university. Moreover, we serve as the “front door” of the university for international students, visitors from around the world, and visiting scholars. We are also an essential administrative resource for students interested in study abroad opportunities and for faculty/staff members who are forging international partnerships.
With a staff numbering over 40 individuals, UFIC is organized administratively into five major units: Exchange Visitor Services; International Student Services; Study Abroad Services; Program Development, and; Administrative and Fiscal Services. Each of these units is devoted to supporting international education, research, and engagement, our principal missions, with the ultimate goal of the Center being to mobilize campus resources on behalf of a high-impact global presence for the University of Florida. With 5,000 international students from over 130 different countries, a campus with nearly 2,000 international scholars and faculty, and a home base for over 2,000 study abroad students in over 50 countries, the UF International Center is a proud promoter of international scholarship.
