Damaris Sweet - 2012 Diane Fisher Award Recipient
Damaris Sweet was born in Suriname and grew up in Curaçao. After graduating from a United World College in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, she came to UF and majored in Accounting with a minor in Information Systems as a Davis Scholar. In November 2012, Damaris received one of the Diane Fisher Scholarships UFIC gives annually to two undergraduate international students for outstanding service in the community.
Damaris serves as the Community Service Director of the African Student Union and is a member of the National Association of Black Accountants. She has participated in many community service events and organized various road cleanups through the Adopt-A-Road program. She also initiated an interactive program about African culture for elementary school children.
Last year, Damaris was admitted into the Florida Leadership Academy, an organization for the top 100 business sophomores at UF . She was also selected for the Future Diversity Leaders program at KPMG and led the Intern Community Service Challenge, raising $400 to buy books for children at the Boys and Girls Club.
