The eminent anthropologist Sidney Mintz gave two talks on campus in early March. Mintz gave a well-attended seminar to graduate students and faculty on the subject of fieldwork in the Caribbean. This event took place in the Center for Latin American Studies. Mintz also gave the inaugural lecture in a series titled "Global Histories and Anthropologies." This series and Mintz's visit are co-sponsored by the History Department, the Center for Latin American Studies, and the Anthropology Department. Mintz's lecture, titled "Toward an Anthropology of Liquids: The Case of Tea and Coca-Cola" was very well-attended (over 100) by faculty, students and friends of the University. This event took place in the Keene Faculty Center, and was followed by a reception.

The prominent historian Paul Gootenberg also visited campus in March. Gootenberg gave the second lecture in the "Global Histories and Anthropologies" series. This series and Gootenberg's visit are co-sponsored by the History Department, the Center for Latin American Studies, and the Anthropology Department. Gootenberg's lecture, titled "Cocaine: A Global History" was well-attended (about 50) by faculty, students and friends of the University. This event took place in the Keene Faculty Center, and was followed by a reception.
