Mr. Thom holds a Master of Arts degree in international relations from The American University and is a graduate of the Army War College. In 1983 he became Chief of the Africa Military Capabilities Branch, DIA's largest production office for the region. In August 1987, Mr. Thom became the Defense Intelligence Officer for Africa and a member of the Defense Intelligence Senior Executive Service. Since 1976 he has served continuously in positions that required him to address all of sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Thom has published extensively and lectured at many civilian and military schools.
