Support for Faculty and Staff
Curriculum
Internationalizing the Curriculum Awards (ICA) – announced in January, proposals due in early March, and awards made in April. Up to $3000 to internationalize a course through developing new international content material, creating a new course or modifying an existing course, or developing a study abroad component.
Global Plan – being developed
Learning
Workshops are offered throughout the year for faculty on topics such as intercultural and cross-cultural communication, how to develop a study abroad program, and how to set up a cooperative agreement with another institution.
The nascent Intercultural Communications Institute (ICI) is a group of faculty and staff interested in intercultural communications. Courses, workshops, business outreach, and research are included in the ICI. If you are interested in learning more about ICI, contact Nikkik@ufic.ufl.edu.
Engagement
The UFIC Speakers’ Series can provide matching funds to faculty bringing in speakers who will discuss topics of broad international interest. The speaker must be willing to make a presentation in a public forum and be available for classroom talks, if requested.
The Global Photo Competition is open to faculty and staff, students, and alumni and provides an opportunity to showcase photographs taken around the world.
The UFIC Student International Brown Bag is a monthly series highlighting UF students’ research on international and global topics. To see a list of past and upcoming speakers, click here. Please nominate your students whose research would be of broad public interest by contacting the program's coordinator at Hbarrett@ufic.ufl.edu.
Scholarship
The website (to be developed) offers a wealth of funding possibilities for faculty. Please check with PD or the Division of Sponsored Research for further support.
As a member of the Florida Global Studies Network, TGSC and UFIC jointly sponsor speakers and visitors, host the Florida International Business Summit, and will be initiating a Florida Global Studies conference in Fall 2008. Faculty are invited to present the results of their research at these events.
Cooperative agreements between UF and universities in other countries are excellent ways to build research partnerships. Reciprocal agreements are meant to be used for the exchange of UF students with students at another university. UFIC can assist faculty with setting up these agreements.
