| Wednesday, February 6th Period 5 (11:45-12:45pm) The International Center Large Conference Room The Student International Brown Bag Lunch series is held during the lunch hour, so those attending are invited to bring their own lunch. “An Educational Catalyst: Re-envisioning Miramar, La Habana” Heather Shandloff, Graduate Thesis Student, College of Architecture Heather is from South Florida where her interest in architecture and Cuban culture emerged and led her to obtain her Bachelor of Design with a major in Architecture from the UF School of Design, Construction and Planning. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Architecture from UF, with an Interdisciplinary Concentration and Certificates in Historic Preservation and Sustainable Design. Part Cuban-American, Heather recently traveled to Havana, Cuba for a better understanding of the country. For her master’s research project, Heather is studying the history and life of Havana, Cuba, specifically the neighborhood of Miramar. She is designing an educational cultural center that will engage the youth in Miramar to experience other cultures around the world. | The FFRI is pleased to announce the upcoming international colloquium on Albert Camus: ************************************************************* CAMUS AND HISTORY/"CAMUS ET L'HISTOIRE" : JOURNEES DE TRAVAIL Friday, February 8, and Saturday, February 9, 2008 Keene Faculty Center, 103 Dauer Hall ************************************************************* On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Albert Camus's Nobel Prize for Literature and in honor of the forthcoming new edition of Camus's complete works in the authoritative "Bibliothèque de la Pléaide" collection, under the direction of UF Professor Emeritus of French, Raymond Gay-Crosier, the France-Florida Research Institute is pleased to welcome Camus scholars from France, Belgium, England, and the United States to Gainesville to discuss the legacy of Camus. The conference will be an occasion to examine the relevance of Camus's thought today, with special emphasis on Camus's Algerian background and writings on the war, the ethics of conflict, and the menace of terrorism. Presentations will be in French and in English, with discussion in either language. The conference is free and open to the public.
