Visa(s)
If applicable, apply for a visa, or visas. Go to the US State Department website for information on visa requirements to your country destination.
Immunizations
For information about vaccinations you will need before traveling to your country destination visit the US Center for Disease Control. The Infirmary at the UF Student Health Care Center handles immunizations and also has information on immunizations you might need.
Air Tickets
Various travel agencies in Gainesville can be found in the local Yellow Pages. Substantial student discounts on ticket prices are available if you purchase a student travel discount card.
Medical Insurance
Traveling with medical/emergency insurance is strongly recommended and is usually required. The University of Florida International Center (UFIC) can help you purchase your required Medex insurance.
Country Information
As part of your preparation, research and familiarize yourself with the country to which you will be traveling. You should read up on various aspects of the country, including culture, politics, economics, and especially any important health and safety precautions that may be required while working there. A useful gateway to links to many of the local newspapers of the world is Newslink.org. These editions should provide you with up-to-the-minute in-country news.
It is also recommended that you visit the UF
Country Specialist Database which contains important links to major
sources of information for each country. A service of the UF International
Center, the database also lists the names of UF faculty members who have
expertise in particular countries.
