Fulbright Program for UF Students
This award is for graduating seniors who want to spend a year of study in another country before beginning their graduate career, as well as for graduate student MA or Ph.D. research. Some countries require fluency in the language of the country and may require a plan of study through a university there. Fulbright awards pay travel, tuition and a monthly stipend.
The Institute of International Education (IIE) administers the Fulbright program for students.

Application
Applications are available through the Honors Program Office. Consult their website for more information. Students apply in September of each year. UF typically has 8-10 nominees annually, 4-5 of which are chosen by the foreign country to which they have applied. There were 59 applications for the 2003-2004 year from UF students, and 9 students were offered a Fulbright grant. In 2004-2005, there were 10 students awarded a Fulbright from UF.
Award
Notification of award is sent directly to the recipient, sometime between March and June. UF is notified several months later, often after the students have left for their Fulbright study.
Honor
The University of Florida holds an annual Spring Fulbright Reception for all Fulbright Nominees. Awardees are invited to share the good news with their hometown newpapers.
